Mascot Tryout Information
Mascot tryouts will be held after cheerleader tryouts in the Spring of 2024!
Parent Meeting is TBD at 6pm in the CL&I.
The following documents are due by May 1:

Eligibility:
Grades 7 and 8 in 2024-2025
Requirements:
Mascots are selected through a voting process in the Spring. They are required to attend pre-camp practice days. During the school year, mascots will be required to learn the cheer performance content and work with and alongside cheerleaders in routines, cheers, dances, etc. at all after school games and events that Cheerleaders attend.
All participants are subject to the rules and expectations of the DSISD Student Athletic Handbook as well as the Mascot Code of Conduct, as it pertains to Mascots and their costume, performances.

1. What does my student need to be able to do in order to make the team?
Mascot candidates are evaluated on - spirit, energy, creativity (skit) and knowledge of the cheers and large big motions that they can do to connect with the cheerleaders.
2. When are tryouts?
Tryouts are done via skit video and shown to the student body during Advisory the first week of May, and voted on over 3 days, with results being announced on a Friday.
3. Who chooses the mascots? Will there be judges?
The student body votes, and the Cheer Coaches will vote and decide on the mascot.
4. Can I play a sport and be a mascot?
Yes, but you may miss out on being a Mascot while your sport is in season. Non-DSISD extracurricular activities such as club and All-Star are considered unexcused absences. There is a minimum of unexcused absences for the DSMS Cheer Team.
5. Do I have to be at the information meeting in order to try out? (TBD at 6pm)
Yes, this meeting is mandatory. You must be at the meeting in order to receive your tryout packet. Tryout packets will not be handed out to students who are not in attendance.

- A 30-45 second skit with music is required in the tiger suit (we have one small suit, and one larger suit). Performed on video and submitted to Coach Katie by May 1, 2024
- The suit will be provided.
- The more creative the skit, the better! Props and fun music a plus!
